Racingline's oil capture system

Here's a really important tip for all owners of MQB 2.0 TSI cars like the Golf 7 R/GTI, Leon Cupra and Audi S3 8V: if you're planning on going to the track, you should seriously consider fitting a RacingLine Catch Tank and Oil Management System beforehand.

Of course, there are other oil trap offerings on the market for these cars. But what is it about the RacingLine kit that has earned it such a reputation among serious racers and high-horsepower car owners?

Let's start with what the RacingLine Catch Tank and Oil Management System does. The kit has a dual benefit. First, like any oil trap, it keeps the intake system clean of oil fumes and moisture by separating these unwanted elements from the breathing system into the trap. See what collects in the trap after a few thousand miles of hard riding and you might be shocked at what comes out!

Without the trap, this nasty mixture will enter the intercooler, its pipes, and the intake tract. There, it condenses and gradually fills the intake system with sticky oil residue and moisture. And no one wants that.

But in addition to keeping the entire intake path clean, installing a trap means that these vapors don't get sucked back into the combustion chamber, ensuring a much cleaner, uncontaminated air/fuel mixture enters your cylinders as it should be. A cleaner charge means higher cylinder efficiency, which means more power.

The result: a clean intercooler, intake tract and charge pipes, and a more efficient engine for many years to come.

So far so good, but perhaps the most important and special aspect of the RacingLine oil management system is that it also offers a suitable solution to the infamous oil shortage problem under hard braking with high G-forces on these 2.0 TSI engines. You can feel how RacingLine's over twenty years of experience in motorsport with the Volkswagen Group really comes to the fore when developing products like this.

Unlike most complete exhaust systems on the market, RacingLine's solution goes further and replaces the entire PCV block on the engine. Given RacingLine's close partnership with the VWG Motorsport brands in the TCR Touring Car project, it's probably no coincidence that they use the exact same engineering solution as the Volkswagen Motorsport/Seat Sport/Audi Sport TCR factory cars to mitigate this issue on this engine.

What is this problem? “We learned the hard way that 2.0 TSI engines, when used on a track with track tires, have a tendency to collect a large amount of oil at the front of the cylinder head during hard braking,” explains Matt Walker, RacingLine’s technical director. “This oil builds up at the front of the engine during high G-brakes, leading to clouds of oil smoke coming out of the exhausts – and ultimately, oil starvation and engine failure in track cars.”

As is often the case with RacingLine products, it's not the cheapest on the market; but when you take a closer look at the true motorsport engineering that has gone into this kit, its exceptional quality and finish, plus the enviable reputation it has already earned among enthusiasts, it's no wonder so many customers actually consider their RacingLine oil management kit to be exceptional value.
