The RacingLine Magnetic Oil Sump Drain Plug VWR180004 is a magnetic oil drain plug developed specifically for 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen.3 / Gen.3B engines in VW, Audi, Cupra / SEAT, and Skoda vehicles.
These engines use a plastic oil pan, which means a standard metal screw plug cannot be used. RacingLine solves this problem with its True-Lock system, which allows for secure quarter-turn installation and reliable locking with a polycarbonate retaining ring.
The primary function of the magnetic plug is to capture fine ferrous metallic particles circulating in the engine oil. These particles appear during normal engine operation and wear, especially under higher loads, dynamic driving, or in software-tuned vehicles.
The magnetic end of the plug attracts and holds these microscopic metal particles, preventing them from continuing to circulate through the lubrication system. During the next oil change, the accumulated particles can be easily cleaned.
The more severely the engine is loaded, the greater the benefit of such a preventative upgrade. This is a small detail that adds another level of protection to the oil system and makes sense at every oil change.
The plug is precision CNC machined from 6061-T6 aerospace aluminum, with a glossy black anodized finish and laser-etched RacingLine logo. The kit also includes two rubber O-rings, a polycarbonate locking ring, and two versions of a locking washer for earlier and later sump designs.

Why This Upgrade Matters
Engine oil not only lubricates but also carries fine contaminants and metal particles that appear during normal engine operation. Even with regular oil and filter changes, some of these ferrous particles can circulate through the system.

True-Lock System
Since EA888 Gen.3 and Gen.3B engines use a plastic oil pan, RacingLine developed a special True-Lock system. It allows the plug to be installed with a quarter-turn into the original sump opening, without the need for modifications.
The polycarbonate locking ring ensures that the plug remains securely fixed and properly sealed throughout the service interval.

- This version is VWR180004 and is designed for EA888 Gen.3 / Gen.3B engines with a plastic oil pan.
- For 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen.4 engines, a different version is used: VWR180006.
- For 2.0 TFSI EA113, 2.0 TDI EA288, 1.4 TSI, and 1.5 TSI applications, a different version is used: VWR180000.
- Check compatibility by model, year, and engine before ordering.
- It is recommended to replace the O-ring seal at each service.
